FIRST RESPONDER EMERGENCY PLANNING

"You never have trouble if you are prepared for it.
Theodore Roosevelt

As First Responders, we constantly hear news of potentially devastating or hostile events. We train extensively in the classroom and in the field in order to expertly respond to these types of incidents. However, have we prepared ourselves individually for an occurrence that could disrupt our personal and/or our family's routine? How would we respond to a large scale incident knowing that our loved ones safety and security may be compromised?

Every year millions of American citizens are affected negatively by natural and man made disasters. It would take pages and pages to report all of the local and regional emergencies that have altered people's lives across the U.S. in the last 12 months. Yet in every event, regardless of how grave the disaster, we see a section of infrastructure that never closes and never sleeps.

They put boots on the ground to ease the suffering of others.

Here is the big question. Whether the threat comes in the form of a tornado, tsunami, pandemic, earthquake, terrorist attack, power outage, flood, hurricane, or snow storm how many of your First Responders have prepared themselves and their loved ones to be safe and sound during a large scale incident? Is each First Responder confident that while walking out the door to do what they do best their loved ones will be secure? Many First Responders may have already created a family "all emergency" plan while others have not, either because they don't know what to do or they don't know how to get started.

Ready2Prepare is pleased to bring FIRST RESPONDER EMERGENCY PLANNING (FREP) to your agency or business.

FREP trains First Responders in key emergency preparedness principles, strategies and techniques to enable them to take care of their homes and families now, so that they can take care of business when duty calls.

FREP emphasizes that preparing for the unknown brings about a peace of mind and personal security that is priceless. Responders should recognize that becoming 100% prepared is not something that must all be done at once – few of us could afford that – but rather something that can be accomplished over time, a little at a time.

Through FREP training, your staff will learn that personal emergency preparedness should be approached from a common sense standpoint than the usual survivalist point of view.

FREP also emphasizes that First Responders can avoid putting themselves in the position of choosing between their families and their careers like many responders did during Hurricane Katrina. (You may have considered this point yourself - what good are responders if they can't respond?) With proper training, preplanning, and a concentrated effort on personal emergency preparedness your staff can work through the "what if's" should an incident become so large that their loved ones become affected or displaced.

FREP training allows agencies and businesses to discover that by implementing personal preparedness training before a crisis, they will see fewer delinquencies on responder rosters during a crisis. A major incident is the wrong time for staff to worry about uncertain conditions at "home".

FREP can help your colleagues and staff members learn to perform better with less stress by raising critical questions regarding staff's personal commitments and responsibilities before disaster strikes.
